Background
ADVA Optical Networking is a leading global provider of optical networking solutions for the deployment, management and delivery of high-speed services for metropolitan areas and enterprise markets.
The ADVA product portfolio is sold through an international network of distributors, value-added resellers and original equipment manufacturers, in coordination with ADVA ’s own regional sales offices and direct service provider sales force.
Challenge
Keeping ADVA business partners informed with the latest product information and competitive news was a challenge. Their single-tiered secure FTP site was no longer effective for sharing documents and information. Some resellers also covered competitor products.
ADVA is a global company with offices worldwide. Product line managers (those individuals in charge of the needed information) resided in different countries, time zones and different networks, in some cases. Few had HTML skills. In addition to the tiered access problem, information collection and coordination was a great challenge.
ADVA needed a tool that was as easy as Windows and it had to be web-based. Outdated technical documents were cluttering the file sharing space, and controls needed to be in place to allow documents to be published and removed on a schedule.
Solution
TwinEngines developed a timeless, custom application that that is seamlessly integrated into the existing ADVA website. It is called the "Partner Login." When end users log in to the system, they can peruse and download only the files to which they are permitted. All non-permitted files are invisible and impossible to access.
The Partner Login Administration site is a browser-based administration tool with secure access. The tool is extremely intuitive, allowing the administrator to upload, describe, grant access to and determine publishing availability of each individual document and file. Stale-dating files means that as documents become outdated, they become invisible to the end user. Therefore, it is truly an intelligent, tiered access document management platform.
What's more, not all documents have to be filtered through one administrator. ADVA had requested several enhancements to the original design, including an "überAdministrator" function, which allows one person to map out the file system layout and then grant upload privileges to "page-level" administrators. This means that product line managers, sales associates and human resources associates have, in essence, their own secured buckets to fill with documents targeted toward a specific audience and invisible to all others.
